Understanding Industry Processes, Innovation and Automation
FIELD TRIP TO SITRA (NOV 2018) - Students of G 6 and 7 have been studying about the Industrial Revolution that first began in Britain. They have read that as a result of the agricultural revolution and greater production of cotton, textiles was one of the first sectors to industrialize. Living in Coimbatore the Manchester of Textiles the textile manufacturing hub of India, adds advantage to the students' proximity to research and development in the field of textiles from the era of the Industrial Revolution when Indian colonies became a chief supplier of cotton to Great Britain. So, it felt right to take them to The South Indian Textile Research Association, SITRA. Students had a first hand understanding of the processing involved in converting cotton fibre to yarn and subsequently to woven and knitted fabric. Their amazement watching the amount of technological innovation that has taken place in the field of manufacture and research of something as basic as cloth, stimulated a deep sense of admiration towards the thought process of those scientists and researchers who have contributed to bringing these practices to the world. Each student was pleasantly intrigued to the fact the the future lies in automation and that their role in the global scenario of innovation is more challenging than ever. The visit has sown the seeds of the basic manufacturing processes in this industry and has set them thinking about the width and depth of mechanization that has become an integral part of any manufacturing industry.#21stcenturyschool #learningbeyondclassrooms
